Train Dog To Use Indoor Dog Litter Boxes
Wee Wee Pads Change
Toilet training puppy's?
Help please! I have 2 Shih Tzu puppy's @ 7months old. Toilet training is not getting anywhere. They pee and poo inside the house even thou the door is open. Most of the time, i think they are just lazy. But my partner and myself are at work most of the day. I come home for lunch thou and they get to go out then. But we come home at the end of the day and there is always pee or poo in the same area of the house, which changes sometimes. I thought by now they would know where to go and how to hold on till we are home. At night, they don't wake us up to let us know they need to go. Thou sometimes the female does but not all the time. I have got them wee pads for them, and they do use is at times. We even moved it closer to the door but they always find there way back to the old spot. I don't know what else to do.
Little dogs are harder to train than the bigger guys, so it will be a longer process. However, I'm not sure that you have taught them to wee outside, they don't know that inside is not a potty.
First I would consider how often they are brought out to relieve themselves, sounds like not much. Leaving a door open will not be work, because they have found their toilet inside.
1st Take them for walks, lots of walks.. around the block, not just in the backyard. Praise each time they relieve themselves outside. Use treats if they're food motivated or lots of love if they're praise motivated. Also this needs to occur late at night and early morning. Maybe you guys can take turns, one at night one in the morning.
2nd Bring their fecal matter outside and leave it a day or two (pick up and replace w/ fresh) to mark the spot so outside becomes an acceptable place to make business.
3rd Get Nature's Miracle at the pet store to clean the area where they're going now. It has enzymes that kill the odor. Don't use vinegar, that make it worse and you'll end up w/ a permanent toilet in the house.
Mostly, you need to take the time to invest in their house training. You didn't go from the womb to the toilet and neither will they.
