Train Dog To Use Indoor Dog Litter Boxes
In: More About Dogs
7 Aug 2009If you are looking for a family pet you should consider a Beagle as they have a gentle disposition, are intelligent and keen to please their owners. Beagles are not too big and not too small; medium sized, which is worth thinking about before you pick your family pet. Beagles have a well developed sense of smell which is why they were originally bred for hunting small animals such as rabbits and hares. The characteristic of a well developed sense of smell can be both an advantage and disadvantage for the trainer. Beagles do tend to be stubborn so to make training interesting for your dog you will need to be on the ball. Beagles are great pets and companions, particularly if you have small children. Their placid nature and robust character means a large capacity for tolerance of noise and activity. They enjoy being with their family and dislike spending large amounts of time alone. Some owners buy two Beagles so they have each other for company.
See some training options below. Your schedule and lifestyle are considerations when choosing from the Beagle training options below. Read even more about Beagle Obedience Training at DogHelpdesk.com.
Training your Beagle yourself
There is a lot of training material available for those of you who like the challenge of going it alone. Access materials that have been written and developed by experienced, expert trainers. By chosing to train your dog yourself you'll have the advantage of being able to fit training times in with your busy schedule. A disadvantage of training alone means you won't be exposing your dog to distractions such as other people and dogs. Important for the development of your dog. For more tips on dog-training and handling (very handy if you are considering training your Beagle yourself), take a look at Dove Cresswell's 'Puppy and Dog Training Online': packed with valuable information, straight from the mouth of an experienced dog-trainer.
Puppy training classes
For training your Beagle, with its well developed sense of smell, it is very helpful to get used to being in environments where there are many distractions. Keeping your Beagle interested when there are new patches of grass to smell and other dogs to sniff, will be challenging. You don't want to spend the whole training class with your dogs nose in the ground! A headstrong and intelligent dog won't give in too easily to your training instructions if it's found something more interesting to do. Plenty of praise and positive rewards will help to keep you firm and consistent with your instruction. Beagles respond well to and learn quickly from instruction, particularly if they are enjoying training sessions. You will get a real sense of reward from training your Beagle.
