Train Dog To Use Indoor Dog Litter Boxes
In: More About Dogs
26 Jun 2009Bulldog care can take up much more of your time than you might believe, as these types of dogs need a lot of exercise and a lot of care on a daily basis. To be able to care for your bulldog properly you should know how much exercise, grooming, feeding and cleaning they need on a day to day basis. This will ensure that your bulldog has a full and healthy life.
Bulldogs come in many different types, and you should make sure that you understand the personality of the dog before you commit to ownership. English bulldog puppies may be more suitable to your lifestyle than, say, American bulldog puppies.
Many people mistakenly believe that bulldogs do not require very much exercise. As with any other breed of dog, bulldogs do need exercise, however, not as much as, say a labrador retriever. Bulldogs have a special need to exercise at a slower rate, therefore you must be sympathetic to this requirement and encourage your bulldog to exercise at a comfortable pace. It may take a few weeks to find an exercise routine that works for both you and your bulldog.
Bulldog ownership does have certain grooming responsibilities, which will keep your dog’s overall health in good shape. Bulldog grooming should be a routine that occurs one to two times a week to ensure that the coat remains healthy. If you groom your bulldog from puppyhood, you can teach him to sit relatively still while he’s being groomed, which will make the grooming process a cinch!
When your bulldog is still a puppy he will have to be fed approximately four times a day to help him grow strong and healthy. As your bulldog gets older you should gradually reduce the amount of food you give him on a daily basis to approximately two times a day when your dog is a full grown adult.
Bulldog puppy training can be difficult if you aren’t consistent. The key is to keep correcting him until he understands what he is supposed to do. Make frequent trips outside and try not to use much physical correction with the pup, as they can be provoked easily. When lead training, it is recommended to use a lightweight chain collar. Many have found the choke chain collars are very effective with such strong-built pups.
