Dogs stool had blood/mucus in it... no feces just blood/mucus?

My dog woke me up this morning and I let her out she went potty and has a bowel movement as well. I let her in and went back to bed. When I got up there was a bloody mucus trail in my living room, I am assuming from her. There was no feces in it. Just bright red blood mixed with a mucus like substance. She hasnt had a change in food or anything she is an indoor dog. Hasnt been around any other dogs in about a month. I have 3 cats but she cannot get to the litter box. She is 9 years old and a pure bred lab. She acts like she is feeling ok. Any thoughts on this? Has anyone seen this happen to their dog? I am taking her to the vet tonight or first thing tomorrow. This all happened at 6am and I had to come into work...
She is fixed. Has been since she was 6 months old.

When you bring your dog to the vet tomorrow, do not forget to bring a fresh stool sample.

Blood and mucus in the stool can indicate several things.

it can be irritable bowel syndrome, colits- a symptom of the large intestine..... it could be a sign of disease like Parvo virus, or a sign of intestinal parasites. Clots or bright red blood in the stool can be a lower digestive tract problem or he may be bleeding from his anus.

Blood and mucus is a sign of a problem. If your dog is still experiencing the blood and mucus in his stools after having a test run at the vet, he needs to be taken back to the doctor to be re-evaluated, since treatments differ depending on what the diagnosis is.

Conditions such as colitis, or irritable bowel syndrome can be controlled by medication and a special diet (or both), while a disease like Parvo virus needs specific medications, and can be fairly dangerous for young dogs.
