Best way to potty train a 4 month old puppy?

I put this in the wrong category the first time around.. Oops.

I just got a 4 month old Beagle. I also have a 7 year old Beagle. My 7 year old, when he was a pup was very easy to potty train. With two dogs I wonder if there is certain technique. I have fenced in yard, I've been taking her in the backyard on a leash, once she goes I praise and sometimes give a treat. Should I keep doing the leash method or should I let her loose in the fenced yard? Also, I'm assuming there is to be no playing in the backyard until she's potty trained?

And when we are out, or when she sleeps, she is in her crate.
The new pup will never have to go any extended times to go potty. I'm home based 3 days a week and days I'm in the office, my fiancee is home. the older dog is male and the pup is a female.

You are doing great! Keep using the leash, and when she is finished going to the bathroom, bring her immediately back into the house. This way, she will understand quicker why she went outside in the first place.
As for playing in the yard, that is fine, as long as it is a SEPARATE time, other than bathroom purposes.
You can even take her to the bathroom on the leash, praise her, bring her in for a few minutes, then re-let her out to play.
