Dog Potty Litter

I have 2 questions: new pup w/ another dog- introduction. Use a kitty litter pan in the kennel to train?

My daughter finally has won out on the puppy war. Dad said yes, so...no backing down now.
The pup we are getting is a mix Maltese/ Pomeranian. Called a MaltePom. I researched the two breeds already, but.... We already have a small dog approx. 3 years old, had her since she was 5 weeks She is a another small dog. potty trained very young. Friendly, Loving, Smart, but Jealous if not included in attention w/ family - attacks my moms' cats- they are bigger, but she means it, not playing around.
How do I make it "ok" ' for this new puppy and my dog? I CAN'T keep them apart all the time. I don't like kenneled dogs -my dog runs the house, no kennel in years.
Next: Breeder said to potty train: put a pan of kitty litter in the kennel, use that for approx. 3 months then if I want her to go out side I could take her out and she'd go. I have several problems with that idea - train to poop inside / where sleep... smell.... I need some help - anybody have an idea?

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT train the dog to go in its kennel!
Actually the other dog may be a help in this matter, as she already has a potty area and the pup will likely bond and follow along. Get a crate for the new pup and crate train it. The crate will provide it with a haven and also give the older dog a break from puppy antics when necessary. You can always let the younger dog out for longer & longer periods of time once it has proven trustworthy and you are sure that they get along.
Introduce them on neutral territory - park, sidewalk down the street from your house, walk them together a while and then take them home and in. Allow current dog to go in first, this establishes her as the alpha.
