Dog Potty Deck

How can I keep my dog from chewing my wooden deck outside? We RENT! HELP! Can't watch her 24 hrs!?

She is not quite a year, has no problems inside, but when I let her out to go potty and play, I hear the chewing starting. She has plenty of chew tosy outside, will even climb part of the fence to get a tree limb to chew on. I tried spraying bitter apple, but then she moves to the next rail. It's becoming a problem. We live on an Army post worried about having to replace the railings! ARGH!!!

If the deck is made from treated lumber, it is treated with arsenic which you know is poisonous. For that reason alone you need to keep her away from the deck!!

Puppy Potty Training, Is An Achievement!

When people say pet, it is always something that we are fond of, something makes us happy and something that needs our attentions just like dog. If your pet looks clean, cute and act smart by following your commands, that's something you can call achievement, something you can be proud of. Pet is also a happy companion that wants us, the leader of the pack, to be always happy. But a happy and admirable pet is not born to be what they are now.

It takes time to train them to follow the command like sit, stay, stand or lie down. Most of them all, the potty training. Training a puppy to potty is tedious and not funny at all, specially in a fully carpeted house. I had my puppy trained for two whole weeks just to potty outside our house, in our deck! And she got so many accidents before that even when I let her outside every 2-3 hours. Leave her alone for a while, then expect to see wet spot in the carpet. Hit her just once, then you yourself will break your own heart. No need to hit a puppy.

When they missed or they had accidents and you scold them, they knew they did something bad and by the look of their eyes and position of their ears you can tell how sorry they are. If they can speak maybe they will utter "sorry" or worse, cry. I learned to give my puppy a cold shoulder for two minutes while cleaning her accidents, poor little thing showed she was sorry for what she did. I've read books, surf the internet for help. I used up many rolls of paper towels and steam cleaned our house in winter time. Then think of giving her to other while my tears were running down. I felt so tired by the end of day working for her potty training. All sum up to two weeks. But for other puppies it might take longer or even shorter time.

One step to progress is when she sat by the door looking outside and when I opened it she went outside and peed right away for just five inches away from the door. It's better that way that to pee on the carpet. It's a relief, but I wish she could have peed on the grass. I realized I was rushing things. The puppy is a baby dog that needs step-by-step training, sleep and foods. When she knew that potty is for outside, and in every time she go potty on the grass outside the house, she will receive undying praises with my happy face and a little doggy biscuit.

It will take time for your puppy too , soon she will catch up. Now my puppy knew how to scratch the door or make a sound when she wants to go outside. Now she can follow commands and patiently waits for her food to be in her dish. Now she is a happy dog with some little tricks of her own. She acts helping my husband to dig when we plant, that's funny! She will get her toy and play with me and she's been so good in front of the camera! She brings us joy. It might be common for a dog to do little things that way, but mine makes me laugh and proud of her.

My heart jumped with joy when friends admire her happy disposition and sweetness. All of my time and efforts is worth it all because she is a family member. Then I realized that I have loved her the moment I chose her among the litter, that time, she became a new family member. Trust yourself in training a puppy and trust the dog to make you happy even if it takes time for them to learn, then you will see what you've achieve. Dogs and other pets will look at you as a good and reliable leader of the pack. Loving a dog also needs exercise and discipline to make a balance and happy life.
