My Dog Won't Pee Outside?

I have a male Yorkie, He is 9 months old. He is potty trained on puppy pads in the house. The problem is, if I take him on walks outside or to a friends house he will NOT pee outside. He never has. He holds it until we get home. How do I stop this and let him no its okay to go outside? I have tried to put him outside when I no he has to go really bad. He just won't do it. He will hold his pee until its leaking out. What can I do to get him to pee on some grass?????

Have you ever tried to put a "used" weewee pad outside on the grass? It might work. I have heard that the poddie pads can actually hurt the dog, because it allows them to think it is okay to go inside. But some say they work if you use them right, like moving the pad close to the door and eventually taking it away. There are also grass wee wee pads, but they are expensive.

I would think your best bet is to get his scent (pee) outside so he can smell it and realize it is okay to go outside.

Good luck.

Steps to Dog Litter Box Training

Dog owners may find it complicated to perform dog litter box training. Majority of dog lovers do not really look forward to this aspect. Nowadays, it's as simple as a training a cat for her potty box. There are several tips you have to always remember in training you dog before achieving successfully in training your dog to use a dog litter box. Make sure that you have considered the level of training and the routine your dog is used to. Dog's comprehension varies depending on breed. Few breeds are much uncomplicated to train while other breeds are more mulish and harder to train. These dog types will definitely take more work and effort.

Age can greatly affect potty training of dogs. Having this said, older dogs can still be coached on how to use dog potty system during the potty training period. All you have to do in order to make this system work is to make use of newspapers or paper towels. You can even make use of pee pads to be placed below the grid but this may be more costly and not friendly to the environment. That's why newspapers are still the best option. As soon as the dog has already learned to use the dog potty box, you will no longer need a newspaper. At the end of the day, you may just opt to throw the urine in the toilet and dispose of the poof left on the top of the grid.

3 Steps to Dog Litter Box Training:

1) Put the dog litter box in an area where your dog usually potty, it can either be indoors or outdoors. It's your choice.

2) Make use of newspapers and paper towels to prevent your dogs from getting bathed with their own urine and place it underneath the dog potty grid.

3) It is still your responsibility to direct your dog to the litter box system when he has to potty. If you do this consistently, they will get used to the scent and start to potty in that assigned area.

It is important that you habitually use words of praise and positive reinforcement throughout the duration of the dog litter box training. There may be possible accidents or shyness encountered at the onset. The whole dog litter box training should bring you and your dog a simpler life. Say goodbye to wet paws or pee pads. But of course, this does not mean that your dog will have to skip exercise. Always remember to still walk him outdoors.
