Puppy, litter boxes and an apartment... HELP?

Im moving into an apartment next month, and there are NO green spaces, its an urban area, so there are no parks close by. I just got a maltese, and he is trained to do this business outside, in a cement area we have in our current house. But my new place does not allow dogs wandering around. The apartment has patios, but they are both ceramic tiles. And to make matters worst, it pours for 4 months straight where i live. (Its like living in a rain forest). So, i was about too give my pup to my mom, cuz she has a large back yard, but she has 2 HUGE dogs, so im kinda worried plus i dont wanna give him away . So im wondering if anyone has had experiences with litter boxes for dogs, i have googled some, but not completely sure about em, or if someone has any ideas THEY WOULD BE APPRECIATED!! thnx! and sorry if its looong!!
btw, i used pee pee pads. they smell HORRIBLE, plus, he eats them!

i would leave with your mom because im pretty sure it wont like stayin in one place it might be bored and stuff

Dogs, Bladder Control and Porch Potty

Over the weekend you give your home a top to bottom cleaning. It positively sparkles and shines. So, on Monday after a long day at work you are looking forward to a nice clean house to come home to and relax in. You park the car, check the mail and happily unlock the door and turn on the light. The first thing you see is a wet spot in the middle of your freshly waxed kitchen floor. It had to be Ming Lei, your beautiful, loving Chow. But why? She has never done that before.

There are many reasons for dogs to lose control of their bladder. Most often, older females and medium to large breeds encounter bladder problems. Lack of muscle control, especially in spayed females, a urinary tract infection, age, and even some diseases such as diabetes are common causes. Sometimes it may even be a behavioral issue rather than a medical problem. If you start to notice any changes in your dog's urinating habits, the first thing to do is have your dog seen by a vet. This will determine the problem and an appropriate treatment plan can begin. Let's look at the most common causes one at a time.

AGE: In animals, just like humans, some things just getting old is a fact of life. As we age, some parts of the body, especially the sphincter muscles and bladders just wear out. If your dog's incontinence is due to aging, there really aren't too many choices. There are several medications that may help the problem by reconditioning the urinary tract, but unfortunately, these medications are not always effective. Another alternative is doggie diapers, but they are difficult at best.

BLADDER INFLAMATION: This can cause either an infection of the bladder or a condition called urge incontinence. This is characterized by leakage or dribbling when the dog experiences the urge to urinate. What happens is a blockage which causes the urine to back up and the bladder to overflow, leading to the dribble. A visit to the vet is needed as soon as possible.

USMI: Urethral Sphincter Mechanism Incontinence occurs when the flow of urine cannot be completely stopped due to weakening or inability of the muscles to stop the process. this is usually exhibited first in spayed female puppies and continues throughout the lifetime of the dog.

STRETCHED BLADDER: A dog forced to hold his or her urine too long on a regular basis causes the bladder to be continually be overfilled and eventually causes incontinence. This is also seen in arthritic dogs who are reluctant to urinate on a regular basis due to the pain in their joints.

URINARY TRACT INFECTION: This is very common, and affects at least half of all dogs at least once in their lives. A distinct change in urinating habits and frequency is a definite sign. Usually it is also accompanied by pain or discomfort. Usual treatment is antibiotics, and once treatment begins the infection is usually gone in about a week.
