Tips on training a dog to be a house dog.?
I have a Beagle, who is allowed indoors and is already housebroken but I have to put her outside during the day for a few hours while I go out and do things I have to do. I don't like her being confined outdoors, especially when it's raining or really cold out, or when I'm not home. I would like some tips from owners of dogs who are similar to her in that, she loves to pull books out of the bookshelves and destroy them and try to get anything that is on the bench off of it. I have doggy doors so that she will be able to get outside to do her business, but I'd like if she could be indoors while I'm out, but not confined in a crate either (I did crate train her)
Sounds like a little separation anxiety going on here. Keep your coming and going very low key so she doesn't see your leaving as anything to be excited about. Give her something to do while you are gone. A frozen stuffed kong works really well. You might want to try and confine her out of those rooms where she is causing destruction in for awhile too. Several well placed baby gates might do well in this situation. If this gets too bad get you crate out again.

Humane Dog Obedience Training Tips
Humane Dog obedience training works for the benefit of both your dog and you the adoptive family. Let's face it, you want your dog to behave when people are around, come when he is called, and walk properly on a leash. Wouldn't it be great if you could teach your dog all these things at home without having to pay a professional dog trainer to do it for you? Very often new dog owners are so involved and overwhelmed in the day-to-day work, that they lose sight of dog training their dogs good manners.
The most common and easy type of dog obedience training to put into practice is the reward-based. Time to achieve success is determined by a combination of factors such as environment, evolution, the breed of dog and the owner's commitment to training. Start the training by telling your dog to sit down and rewarding it for doing it. Say your SIT command and help him, by gently and perhaps very briefly helping him to sit. To train the dog with a treat, hold the treat and move it over the dog's head first. Often, this will cause the dog to sit down while watching the treat you are holding over its head. By practicing this many times, this will force the dog into the habit of sitting down to continue looking at the treat or the object that it wants.
By dog obedience training, you are making sure that the animal always responds in a positive way to your commands without losing calm and developing unsocial behavior.
