Don’t get too excited with Fido as soon as you get home from the pet store it’s best to save the neat dog tricks until after you complete a little basic dog obedience training.Similarly to the slow pace at which a child learns words before learning a language, dogs need to start receiving their training with elementary commands such as ‘sit’, ‘stay’ and ‘heel’.  Keeping it simple in the beginning allows your dog to grasp basic communication with you and establish a bond with you early on.  Soon obeying these few simple commands will just come as second nature to your dog.

Don’t overwhelm your new puppy with too many commands and techniques that feel like he’s first year in a Masters Degree program.  You will become your puppy’s best friend and his master rather than the nasty professor at the head of the class.  Use lots of love and rewards when your dog completes some basic dog training.When the dog is rewarded, he will return to obey for both rewards and enjoinment, and will not seem frightened to perform tricks he only just mastered at the risk of punishment. 

Choosing to reward a dog in exchange for tricks is used in addition to the leash and collar training method.  Rewarding the dog with treats and food is generally a more relaxed approach although not necessarily the best.For example, if a dog comes to expect a chewy bone after every ‘sit’ command, he may never gain the instinct to perform this task, when necessary, without reward.

Some feel the military means is more effective than the gentle method of offering a treat for a reward.Therefore, the leash method, which underlines that the dog is subject to a human master, is considered to be more effective than the reward method, as it is believed to have the dog obey the master at all times without protest, in contrast to the reward method

However, don’t let the leash do all the work.  Your dog must adapt and obey your commands with or without the leash.When this goal is achieved, the dog will truly be subject to you in a positive relationship and you will have an excellently behaved dog.

Whatever method you choose, dog obedience training ensures the dog executes your commands positively rather than running rampant with no routine training.Therefore, as a result of basic dog obedience training you will have a behaved dog, an object that you can love as a best friend, and an entertainer for all of your friends.
